From Sales Tips 101: Honesty in sales? Being an honest salesperson.
Over the course of my sales career I’ve been asked many times if being an honest salesperson pays. Is there really any room for honesty in sales? My answer has always been a firm yes. There’s already a terrible stigma associated with salespeople. We, as salespeople are seen as snakes, cons, or fast talkers. The perception is that salespeople will say, or do just about anything to get a commission. The fact of the matter is that those days are long, long over.
Being an Honest Salesperson
Like yourself, I’ve met honest people, and I’ve met dishonest people in my life. The same can be said about the salespeople I’ve met during my career. Some are honest sales people, others didn’t believe that honesty had any place in sales. With that said, what I did always notice was that the honest salesperson always outperformed the dishonest salesperson. The reason why honesty in sales will pay off is simple, repeat sales, and referrals.
